Following on from the initiatives established in the last two ECM meetings (Oviedo and Vienna) and feedback from the organising committees of these meetings, we have put into place a number of actions to promote women in crystallography and ensure, as far as possible, equal opportunity for male and female delegates at ECM33 in Versailles.
These include :
Taking into account the statistics of attendance and speaker balance from previous ECM meetings furnished by previous organisers, we have, together with the different SIGs and GIGs, constructed a program in which
a) The two plenary lectures will be given by one male and one female scientist
b) Gender balance for keynote speakers is respected in the initial program, and efforts will be made to maintain this balance during the phase of invitation and acceptance
c) Microsymposium chairs have been instructed to construct the detailed program of their session with at least 40% of presentations given by women scientists. Each scientific focus area co-ordinator, who are represented on the Local Organising Committee, has been reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure that micro symposium chairs take on board this instruction.
